This aircraft is a Waco 9, S/N 385. The Advance Aircraft Co., Troy, OH built it on June 4, 1927. It arrived at Santa Monica on Tuesday, November 17, 1931. It changed hands 13 times in its 16-year life, with all owners living in California.
The names of the pilot and owner are, unfortunately, unreadable in the Register. However, we know the pilot's Transport pilot certificate was T5855. "Mines" Field was written in the arrival column and he cited the destination of his local flight as Fullerton, CA.
Besides its visit to Santa Monica, NC3018 also appears in the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register on Friday, June 24, 1927. Its sparse technography is online at the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register Web site at the link. There you will find citations of the ownership record and learn that the landing at Tucson was part of the ferry flight of the new airplane from the factory to its new owner in Los Angeles. The last owner, Harry Stull, is cited in the FAA record for the deregistered airplane at the link. NC3018 was deregistered September 21, 1949. I have no photographs of the airplane. If you can help, please let me KNOW.
